2017 has been one hell of a year! So much to reflect on and be thankful for, and even more to look forward to in 2018. This past year was politically infuriating, professionally encouraging, and personally wonderful. I was able to stay true to the goals I set for myself and remain active in my community. The women's march in DC was a huge inspiration for me, and as a result I have kept up with the issues that I have avoided in the past. Becoming more engaged and socially conscious was, and remains, important to me. Our country has a long way to go, but I am glad to be a part of it.

Being in DC for the women's march this past January was the best decision I made all year. I am so glad to have witnessed and heard with my own eyes and ears.

Professionally, I settled into my studio in the new and improved Redux Contemporary Art Center, sign on with the wonderful team behind Straight to Art, began teaching workshops, served on the 2017 Redux auction committee (the most successful auction to date!), secured a solo show for next year (stay tuned!), ANNNNND I've put in my notice to be a full-time creative! Woohoo! I can't tell you how excited I am to begin teaching courses at Redux next month. My students have started to sign up, and I've been subjecting friends and family to practice class sessions. In addition to teaching, I will get to spend MUCH more time in the studio. Being able to wake up every day and be creative is a dream come true; I am on the cusp of officially living my dream, I just can't get over it.

Personally, it has been a wonderful year of settling into the home we own. Our furry family has reached capacity (for now), and I have loved making memories in a home I can call my very own. We starting getting our hands dirty, upgrading the back yard, and painting our walls with the colors of our choice. We have also had so much fun curating the art we have been collecting over the past few years. What a difference some well loved art can make!

Of course I have doubts and insecurities about taking the scary leap into the unknown, but I'm totally confident that it is the right decision for me and my career. I need to take this risk in order to grow my business, and I have a solid foundation to work from. These past 4 years of hard work and sacrifice have taught me so much and prepared me for the uncertainty of what lays ahead, I am READY. Bring it on, 2018!
