So it's been quite a month for our country, and I know that many of us are feeling scared, sad, frustrated and angry. BUT, I have also noticed a LOT of love of support being given, especially in our Charleston community. This gives me lots of hope for our future.
So, along the lines of love and support, I would like to share some of my favorite local ladies. I have been building my art business for the past two years, and women like these deeply inspire me to keep working hard to accomplish my dreams:
Shop Thelma: This women's wear brand is the brainchild of local Charleston photographer, Amanda Greeley. As a huge fan of her photography, it is no surprise that a pair of her gorgeous Italian made loafers are now on my wish list. But what I love even more than her beautiful design is the message and purpose behind her brand: "Thelma aims to create uncomplicated essentials that fit the lifestyle of a woman who is quietly aware of who she is and what she likes... she is very much herself". Honestly, the whole "about" page is inspiring to me as a woman and artist, read for yourself!
Supermassive Textiles: Supermassive is the work of Krista Engler. She designs and creates her wearable art in her home studio. Each piece is died by hand and is one of a kind. I also love that she makes a conscious effort to keep her methods eco-friendly. I was able to meet Krista and snag a beautiful head scarf last year, and I cant wait to get my hands on another Supermassive piece.
Chambers Austelle is an amazing local Charleston artist. She creates pieces that question how women are perceived in our society; a theme that has become exponentially relevant this year. I have been following her work for a couple years now, and her newest pieces are blowing me away. Lucky for us she has a solo show coming up at Beresford Studios on February 10th! I can't wait to see everything in person.
